The Pacific Northwest Powder Route
The Pacific Northwest Powder Route
Location: Mt Bachelor (OR), Timberline (OR), Stevens Pass (WA), Crystal Mountain (WA)
Passions: Skiing & Snowboarding / Adventure / Nature
Trip Type: Self guided tour
This roadtrip links some of the most stunning and snow-blessed resorts in the Pacific Northwest — all set on or around volcanic peaks, with jaw-dropping terrain, deep powder, and beautiful drives through forests, lakes, and mountain passes. From Oregon’s laid-back locals and endless tree runs to Washington’s big-mountain energy and glacier views, this route is about embracing the raw natural beauty of the Cascades — with hot springs, craft beer, and serious skiing along the way.
Featured Resorts:
- Mt. Bachelor (OR) – Massive terrain with 360° skiing from the summit of a dormant volcano. Wide open bowls, glades, and groomers for all levels. Long season, minimal crowds, and RV parking available directly at the base.
- Timberline (OR) – Highest lift-served skiing in the Northwest. Excellent early- and late-season conditions, historic mountain lodge atmosphere, and views across the Cascade Range. Often combined with a night at nearby Government Camp.
- Stevens Pass (WA) – Deep snow, short hikes to sidecountry stashes, and a strong local scene. Offers reserved overnight RV parking at the base. A great storm-day resort when visibility is limited at higher elevations.
- Crystal Mountain (WA) – The biggest ski resort in Washington with sweeping bowls, steep tree lines, and some of the best views in North America (hello, Mt. Rainier). RV-friendly base area makes this an ideal final stop.
Why Ski With-a-Camper?
⛷️ Freedom to explore: Your own ski lodge on wheels, no repacking between destinations
📸 Cost-effective: Save hundreds on ski town lodging while staying mobile
🏔️ 'Ski-to-Camper-Door' - While most larger resorts don’t allow overnight parking, with year-round campsites nearby, you're a quick drive from the slopes. During the day, your campervan is right at the base — giving you all the benefits of ski-to-door access, with the comfort and flexibility of having everything you need just steps away.
Note: Most rental campervans in the U.S. do not have running water, working toilets, or showers in winter, as the vehicles are “winterized” to prevent freezing. That means you’ll typically rely on facilities at campsites, ski resorts, restaurants, or local gyms/pool.
Booking this Trip
- Campervan rental from Seattle from €120 per night
- Looking for a winter customised campervan (with toilet, shower & sink) then consider hiring from Vancouver or Calgary

👥 Join a Group
We're working on arranging special departures where multiple campervans travel together as a group. Travel in convoy with other campervans for a trip that’s as much about the people as the places. Ski together, share some meals, swap stories during apres, and build new friendships along the way — all while exploring spectacular routes side by side.

It’s going to be warmer, easier, and way more fun than you expect.
Skiing from a campervan sounds adventurous — and it is — but with the right setup, it’s also surprisingly cosy and convenient. You’ll skip overpriced hotels, park close to the slopes, and have everything you need right where you need it. Here’s how to make your trip smooth, warm, and unforgettable:
🔥 1. Choose a Winter-Ready Van
Make sure your rental is built for cold conditions — good insulation, proper heating (diesel or propane), snow tires, and ideally chains. These vans are made for alpine nights and early powder mornings.
🚿 2. Combine Van Life with Resort Comforts
Think of your campervan as a warm and private base — but make the most of what the resort offers. Use ski lockers, enjoy lodge cafés, or end your ski day with a hot tub soak or spa session. It’s a best-of-both-worlds approach.
🛻 3. Know Where You Can Stay Overnight
Some resorts welcome overnight RV parking, especially for self-contained vans. Others don’t — but you’ll often find winter RV parks, state parks, or snow-season campgrounds nearby. Check in advance and always follow local rules.
❄️ 4. Pack Smart, Dress Smarter
With limited space, layers are your best friend. Bring merino base layers, warm mid-layers, and a dry change of clothes for relaxing in the van. Compact outerwear and smart packing go a long way.
🥘 5. Keep Meals Simple & Hot
A warm meal after skiing makes all the difference. Most vans come with a gas stove or small kitchen — perfect for soup, pasta, or simple one-pot meals. Bring a few easy comfort foods and warm drinks to enjoy at the end of the day.
📍 6. Stay Flexible & Follow the Snow
This is the real magic of a campervan ski trip — if the powder’s better one canyon over, just go. You’re not locked into one resort or one plan. Keep an eye on snow forecasts and ride wherever it’s best.
🎿 7. Embrace the Vibe
Expect mountain views with your morning coffee, a warm van to come back to at lunch, and maybe a few friendly chats in the parking lot. It’s a different kind of ski trip — more independent, more immersive, and often more memorable.
