Plan your trip

Top tips for this trip
1. Book Campsites Early: Kruger Rest Camps and the Panorama Route can fill up months in advance. 2. Check Golf Course Dress Codes: Some require collared shirts and golf shoes even in the bush. 3. Carry Binoculars: You'll spot wildlife from your campervan and while golfing. 4. Start Early: Game drives and golf rounds are best early in the morning before it gets hot. 5. Keep Provisions Stocked: Some camps have shops, but selection is limited—bring snacks and drinks. 6. Allow Time for Detours: The Panorama Route deserves a few stops, so plan extra time.
Best time of year
The Kruger region is a year-round destination, but each season offers a different experience. May–September (Dry Winter): Clear skies, mild days, cool nights. Excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather at waterholes. Great golf weather, but mornings can be chilly and camps busier in peak months. October–March (Summer): Hot and humid with afternoon rains. The bush is green and birdlife thrives. Quieter outside Christmas, with lower rates, but wildlife can be harder to spot in dense vegetation. 👉 The sweet spots are May–June or September: warm, less crowded, and ideal for both golf and safari.
Not yet convinced to travel by RV?
We really think an RV is the best way to explore Kruger — giving you freedom, flexibility, and unbeatable value — but if you prefer not to, there are plenty of excellent lodges in the area. Sands River Lodge: Offering all-inclusive luxury stays with guided game drives, fine dining, and unforgettable views over the river, our favourite is Lion Sands River: Search availability and prices for Sands River Lodge. Alternatively you can also browse many more lodge options in and around Kruger: See Kruger safari lodge options.
